UPDATE - 27th Oct

Update received from school.
===============================================================
Dear Parents

Greetings from DYPIS! At the outset I would like to thank you for making time from your schedules and joining us yesterday for the DYPIS Marathon meeting.
Am appending below a brief write up that you can send parents of your class/section and thereby encouraging them to participate in the said event.
Am also enclosing a circular that we will be sending tomorrow to all parents of Grades 1 to 5 (this is with reference to the new race category that we will now have - Dream Run of 2 kms for primary grade students). If reqd you can forward the registration form (page 2 of the attachment) to parents who require the same (for Dream Run).

""
Dear Friends,
The IB (Grade 11) students of DYPIS are organizing the first of its kind Run-A-Thon event on Sunday, 24th November 2013 at Bandra Kurla Complex.
Participants can register for any 1 of the following three run categories:
(a) 7 km run (for adults only)
(b) 5 km run (students of Grade 6 to 12 only)
(c) Dream Run - 2 kms (students from the Primary section - Grades 1 to 5 only)

Please note that for the Dream Run, the students (Grades 1 to 5) must be accompanied by an adult (a parent / relative / grand parent).

For all the above categories, participants are free to run / jog / walk or employ a combination of the three to complete the stipulated distance.

The dream run will have a special prize – for the best dressed child (boy and girl). The fee for participants of the dream run will be Rs 1000 (however this will be for 2 individuals – the child and the accompanying adult).
For the other run categories the fee is Rs 1000 per participant.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Habitat for Humanity and will be used to rebuild homes destroyed by the floods / landslides in Uttarakhand in June 2013.
The unique aspect about the DYPIS Run-A-Thon is that it is a completely student led event and all logistics for the marathon will be organized by them.

So friends time to get your running shoes out and hope to see you on the 24th of November 2013.

Cheers

1 km Kids Marathon

D.Y.P.I.S. 1km Kids Marathon

This post can also be viewed online at http://dypiskidsmarathon.blogspot.com .

Fellow Parents,

D.Y. Patil International School has organized a Marathon on 24th Nov 2014 at BKC for classes 6-12. This Marathon is open to anyone else who may want to participate, Parents, Friends, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, but not so sure about pets!!

A circular has already been sent home with each child. It contains complete details and a participation form.

Many parents gave a suggestion that children from lower classes (4th & lower) should also be admitted, but only for a separate short course of maybe 1 km or so. The school administration has agreed to pursue this suggestion, and they shall get back to us in the next 2 days to let us know if it is being implemented.

At this point, they seem to be very receptive to the idea of younger children participating.
The objective of this exercise is to raise funds for the rebuilding of homes for the victims of the Uttarakhand disaster. The biggest advantage is that our children will get to participate in a team bonding activity.

This is also a wonderful tool to use a first step in explaining to our children, and introducing them, to the idea & importance of helping ones community through various different avenues.

For Class 1, there is a proposal that the entire class shall have a Walk-A-Thon / JOG . Wherein the entire class will walk / jog together (not compete against each other). For those who wish to have their child run the short course themselves, you can do so as well.  But whats the fun in having your child run alone when he/she has friends to accompany him/her?

Points / Suggestions which are under consideration by the School:

  • We have requested that 6:15 am is too early for youngsters. So they should have a separate flag-off later, so as not to clash with the runners of the major races, but yet finish on time. Each lower class will leave after a gap of 2-3 minutes, so that there is no crazy rush between the kids.
  • The School has insisted that parents who wish to participate in the longer runs, do so, and have another adult from the family accompany their child in the Jog / Walk. One or Both Grandparents would be great. A great family bonding opportunity.
  • The entrance fees for the shorter walk shall be far less than that for the long runs. Amount will be provided in a few days.
  • There will be no timing, and therefore no 1st, 2nd or 3rd places in the short walk /jog.
  • In the short course for young children, each participant will be accompanied by an adult.
  • Each participant (Lower classes) will receive an acknowledgement of participation in the kids marathon. Certificate, Medal, etc to be decided by the school.

If parents (from Grade 1) have any ideas, suggestions or questions they would like to put forth to the School, please send me an email at  dypiskidsmarathon @gmail.com, so a composite set of requests & questions can be forwarded to the school for their response.

I hope every parent will have their child participate in this kids marathon as well as participating themselves in the longer ones, if possible!!
